The Dangers of 'My Life, My Law'

Verse:Judges 17:6

"In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes."

In today's world, we are witnessing a growing trend of lawlessness and rebellion against God's authority. It's a mindset that says, "My life, my law." It's a mindset that rejects God's laws and principles, and instead, does what seems right in one's own eyes.

This mindset is not new, and we see a vivid illustration of it in the book of Judges. In those days, Israel had no king, and everyone did what was right in their own eyes. This led to a proliferation of idolatry, immorality, and spiritual chaos. People created their own gods, their own temples, and their own priests. They did whatever seemed right to them, without regard for God's laws or His authority.

The consequences of this lawlessness were severe. Israel was plagued by spiritual darkness, moral decay, and national chaos. They had abandoned God's laws and were reaping the whirlwind. The once-mighty nation of Israel had become a laughingstock, a mere shadow of its former self.

As we reflect on this passage, we are reminded that the concept of "my life, my law" is a recipe for disaster. When we reject God's laws and principles, and instead, do what seems right in our own eyes, we open ourselves up to spiritual chaos and moral decay.

We must recognize that our lives are not our own, but belong to God. We must submit ourselves to His authority and His laws, and seek to live a life that is pleasing to Him. Anything less is a recipe for disaster, and will ultimately lead to a life that is devoid of God's presence and power.

Let us learn from the mistakes of Israel and return to God's laws and principles. Let us recognize that our lives are not our own, but belong to God. Let us submit ourselves to His authority and His laws, and seek to live a life that is pleasing to Him.

Prayer:

Dear God, help us to recognize the dangers of lawlessness and rebellion against Your authority. May we return to Your laws and principles, and may we submit ourselves to Your authority. May we seek to live a life that is pleasing to You, and may we avoid the pitfalls of idolatry, immorality, and spiritual chaos. Amen.
