Inheriting God: A Legacy of Divine Provision
Verse:"Joshua 13:33 - But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them."
In the distribution of the Promised Land, the tribe of Levi stood out as distinct. While their brethren received earthly inheritance, they received something far more extraordinary - God Himself. This profound truth resonates deeply, inviting us to explore what it means to have God as our inheritance.
To have God as inheritance signifies that our ultimate provision and sustenance come from Him alone. The Levites' role was to serve the Lord, and in doing so, they discovered that God was their true inheritance. This reality freed them from reliance on earthly possessions, allowing them to focus solely on divine purposes.
As Psalm 16:5-6 expresses, "O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance." When God becomes our inheritance, we experience a shift in priorities. Our concerns, needs, and desires become intertwined with His.
The concept of inheritance implies a deep sense of belonging and ownership. In having God as our inheritance, we become His, and He becomes ours. This mutual possession fosters an intimate relationship, where our lives are filled with God's business, and His heart is filled with our concerns.
Deuteronomy 10:9 reminds us, "Therefore, Levi has no portion nor inheritance with his brethren; the Lord is his inheritance, as the Lord your God promised him." This unique arrangement allowed the Levites to serve God without distraction, demonstrating that our true inheritance lies not in earthly possessions but in our relationship with Him.
May we, like the tribe of Levi, find our inheritance in God alone, embracing the profound implications of this divine provision.
Prayer:
Oh God, help us understand the depth of having You as our inheritance. May our lives be filled with Your purposes, and our hearts be filled with Your love. Amen.
