Taking God's Blessings Personally

Verses :Judges 6:6-10 - "And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD. And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites, That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land; And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice."

The Israelites' recurring rebellion against God, despite His numerous interventions, is a perplexing phenomenon. The root of this issue lies in their inability to personalize God's blessings and recognize His direct involvement in their lives. When blessings came, they viewed them as general provisions for the entire community, rather than acknowledging God's personal care and provision for each individual.

This failure to take God's blessings personally hindered their ability to obey Him as a community. Obedience requires a personal decision, born out of a deep understanding of God's character and a recognition of His direct involvement in one's life. When we take God's blessings personally, we begin to appreciate the depth of His love and care for us. This, in turn, fosters a personal commitment to obey Him, ultimately leading to community blessings.

The prophet's message to the Israelites in Judges 6 serves as a poignant reminder of God's personal involvement in their lives. The prophet recounts God's deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian bondage, emphasizing His personal care and provision for them. However, the Israelites failed to recognize and respond to God's personal blessings, leading to their disobedience.

As we reflect on this passage, may we be reminded of the importance of taking God's blessings personally. May we cultivate a deep understanding of His character and recognize His direct involvement in our lives.
