Stewarding God's Wealth: A Call to Compassion

Verses:Deuteronomy 2:7 - "For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your trudging through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing."

Moses' farewell address reminds us of God's unwavering presence and provision, yet thousands succumb to starvation while some Christians indulge in spiritual extravagance, neglecting the needy. Scripture declares, "The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness..." (Psalm 24:1). Our wealth belongs to Him; we're mere stewards.

Withholding from the needy is a twofold robbery: theft from God, as wealth is His, and deprivation of the designated recipients, as God intends for His wealth to bless the vulnerable. Proverbs 28:27 warns, "He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who hides his eyes will have many curses." Matthew 25:45 echoes, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me."

Justifying withholding by claiming "it's my hard-earned wealth" is futile. Our toil is strenuous robbery if spent accumulating wealth without supporting the needy. We must recognize God's ownership and the needy's rightful claim.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, forgive our greed and indifference. Break our hearts for the suffering. Grant us wisdom to steward Your wealth, blessing the needy. May our labor reflect Your compassion, never justifying robbery from God and the poor.Amen.
