Avoiding Dark Pathways

Verses:Deuteronomy 18:10-14 - "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or who uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do."

In this passage, God warns His people against engaging in occult practices, emphasizing the importance of separating themselves from such darkness. Many underestimate the severity of occultism, believing it to be harmless or even beneficial. However, God's Word reveals its devastating consequences.

The Bible acknowledges the reality of these supernatural practices but prohibits God's people from participating in them. Why? Because our calling is to follow what is right, not merely what is real or true. Righteousness is about aligning with God's will.

God desires perfection in our relationship with Him, and any deviation into darkness undermines this bond. The nations surrounding Israel indulged in divination and enchantment, but God's people were called to a higher standard.

Occultism may masquerade as innocent or intriguing, but it opens doors to destructive forces. It blurs the lines between light and darkness, leading individuals down a path of deception and bondage.

As believers, we must recognize the danger of occultism and shun its influence. Let us stand firm in our commitment to God's ways, embracing the light of His presence.

Prayer:

Oh Lord, protect us from the allure of darkness and guide us in Your righteous paths. Help us discern between what is real and what is right, always choosing to align with Your will. May our devotion to You remain unwavering, and may Your light shine brightly through us.

Amen.
