Responding to God's Greatnes
Verses:Deuteronomy 10:14-16, 17-19 - "Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it. Yet the Lord set His heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day. Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn. For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe."
God's majesty encompasses heaven and earth, yet He chooses to love and select Israel, and by extension, us. This divine favor demands a response – surrendering our hearts. Stubbornness, or knowingly disregarding God, is unacceptable. Our free will does not exempt us from accountability. God's unparalleled greatness calls for humility and obedience.
Psalm 139:1-4 affirms God's all-knowing presence: "You have searched me and known me... You comprehend my path and my lying down." His sovereignty knows no bounds, and ignoring His existence does not liberate us from responsibility.
Why respond to God? He is the Creator, Sustainer and Redeemer. His love and power surpass human comprehension. In reverence, our hearts must soften to His majesty, shedding stubbornness and embracing His love.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, You are the great, mighty and awesome God. Soften our hearts to respond to Your love and majesty. May our lives reflect Your greatness. Amen.
