The Lonely yet Glorious Homecoming of Moses

Verses:Deuteronomy 34:5-12 - "So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day. And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended. And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses. And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face, In all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land. And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel."

As Moses' remarkable life came to a close, God chose to bury him alone, hidden from human eyes. This poignant moment speaks volumes about their extraordinary relationship. In that quiet solitude, God may have whispered, "It is enough, dear companion. Take rest." And as He laid Moses to rest, He might have added, "I will miss you."

Three reasons possibly motivated God to bury Moses alone. First, it prevented any potential distraction or divided loyalty among the Israelites, ensuring a seamless transition to Joshua's leadership. Second, God alone was Moses' true companion, underscoring the depth of their face-to-face relationship. Third, this intimate farewell granted Moses his heart's desire – to see his Lord face-to-face.

Moses' life serves as a testament to the transformative power of divine companionship. His unwavering faith, unrelenting passion, and unshakeable trust in God inspired a nation. As we reflect on his legacy, we're reminded that our ultimate companion is the Lord.

In times of transition and uncertainty, may we find comfort in God's presence. May His Spirit guide us, as He guided Joshua, and may our lives reflect the wisdom and courage that defined Moses.

Prayer :

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the extraordinary life of Moses. May his example inspire us to cultivate a deep, face-to-face relationship with You. As we journey through life, may we find strength in Your companionship and rest in Your loving care.

Amen.
