A Father to the Forgotten

Verses:Deuteronomy 24:19-22 - "When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it. It shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. When you beat your olive trees, you shall not go over the boughs again. It shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward; it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow."

In these verses, God reveals His heart for the vulnerable – the stranger, fatherless, and widow. He instructs His people to leave portions of their harvest for these individuals, demonstrating His care and provision.

When our will fails to obey God, He uses our forgetfulness to serve His purpose. The forgotten sheaf, untouched olive boughs, and ungathered grapes become blessings for those in need. This teaches us that God's desire is not merely to command, but to care.

The ones with no earthly family find their Father in God. He fondles and cares for them, demonstrating His love. Those with earthly blessings receive them through God's provision.

This passage showcases God's character: compassionate, loving, and providential. He ensures the well-being of the marginalized, using our forgetfulness to accomplish His will.

As we reflect on God's love for the vulnerable, may our hearts swell with gratitude and compassion. May we love those whom God loves, never obstructing His care for them.

Prayer:

Oh Father, thank You for Your heart that beats for the stranger, fatherless, and widow. Help me love and care for those You cherish. May my forgetfulness become blessings for others, and may I never hinder Your work of caring and fondling those in need. I praise You for Your unfailing love.

Amen.
