Remembering God's Faithfulness
Deuteronomy 1:32-33 - "For despite this, you did not trust the Lord your God, who went in the way before you to search out a place for you to pitch your tents, to show you the way you should go, in the fire by night and in the cloud by day. And the Lord heard the sound of your words, and was angry, and took an oath, saying..."
Moses reminds Israel of their recurring failure: disconnecting present struggles from God's past faithfulness. This forgetfulness led to doubt, fear and disobedience. Despite God's guidance and provision, Israel's memory failed them.
Have you experienced God's intervention, only to doubt His presence in your current situation? You are not alone. Moses reminds us to recall God's faithfulness, bridging the gap between past experiences and present challenges.
Deuteronomy 8:2-5 and 29:5-6 highlight Israel's journey, showcasing God's provision and protection. Yet, they forgot. We often repeat this pattern, focusing on problems rather than God's faithfulness.
Psalm 103:2-4 encourages us: "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits..." Invite God into your present situation, and He will rejoice in your renewed trust.
In conclusion, the only sphere where you can invite God to be actively present is your present tense. Don't look back or forward; bring Him into your now.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We confess our tendency to forget Your faithfulness. Forgive our doubt and fear. Help us bridge the gap between past experiences and present challenges.
May Your guidance and provision be forever be in our memories. We invite You into our present situations, trusting Your loving kindness.
Bless us to recall Your benefits, forgiving iniquities, healing diseases and redeeming lives.
Amen.
