A Heart in Tune with God
Verses: 1 Samuel 24:3-5
"So he came to the sheepfolds by the road, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to attend to his needs. David and his men were just inside the cave. Then the men of David said to him, 'This is the day of which the Lord said to you, "Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you."' And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul's robe."
In this passage, we see David with a unique opportunity to take revenge on his enemy, King Saul. He could have easily killed Saul and taken the throne that had been promised to him. But instead, David's heart did not let him do it. He was not even tempted to take matters into his own hands. This was not because he had made a conscious decision to spare Saul's life, but because his heart was in tune with God's heart.
David's awareness of the wrong in killing God's anointed was strong, and his concern for Saul was genuine. He knew that God did not want him to take revenge, and his heart was inclined to follow God's will. This is why David was called a man after God's own heart. He felt what God felt, and his wholehearted devotion, communion, and trust in God resulted in a heart that was in tune with God's heart.
This passage teaches us that our relationship with God is not just about following rules and regulations, but about having a heart that is in tune with God's heart. It is about feeling what God feels, and being inclined to follow His will. When we have a heart that is in tune with God's heart, we will not be tempted to take matters into our own hands, but instead, we will trust in God's sovereignty and timing.
As we reflect on David's story, let us ask ourselves if our hearts are in tune with God's heart. Are we feeling what God feels, and are we inclined to follow His will? Do we trust in God's sovereignty and timing, or do we try to take matters into our own hands? Let us strive to have a heart that is in tune with God's heart, a heart that is wholeheartedly devoted to Him, and a heart that trusts in His goodness and love.
Prayer:
Dear God, help us to have a heart that is in tune with Your heart. Give us a deep understanding of Your will and Your ways, and help us to feel what You feel. May our hearts be inclined to follow Your will, and may we trust in Your sovereignty and timing. May we be like David, a man after Your own heart, and may we reflect Your love and goodness to those around us. Amen.
