Walking with God: The Ultimate Truth
Exodus 33:13-14
13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.
14 The Lord replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
In this profound exchange, Moses seeks intimacy with God, asking to know His ways. God's response, "My Presence will go with you," reveals the ultimate truth: God Himself is the answer.
Moses, having endured years of uncertainty, craves a deeper understanding of God's nature. His question implies a desire to comprehend the mysteries of existence: "Who are You? What am I? Why am I here?" The answer, however, lies not in intellectual comprehension but in experiential knowledge.
God's reply, "I will be with you," assures Moses that the truth will unfold as they walk together. This promise echoes the encounter between Jacob and the angel in Genesis 32:22-33, where Jacob asks, "What is your name?" The angel's response, "Why do you ask my name?" (Genesis 32:29), hints at the ineffability of God's nature.
We often seek instant gratification, desiring a concise, one-sentence doctrine that encapsulates the ultimate truth. However, the only truth the Church can offer is the invitation to draw near to God Almighty, initiating a transformative journey.
This walk with God is gradual, unfolding as we surrender to His presence. Seeking perfection at the outset betrays an adulterous pursuit of truth, born from human ingenuity rather than divine revelation.
The destination is not a doctrine or creed but God Himself. A single moment of affinity with Him carries eternal weight, surpassing all human knowledge. Contentment flows from this intimacy, rendering all other pursuits pale in comparison.
As we walk with God, heaven's sweetness and contentment become our reality. The God of Heaven's presence transforms our lives, making every step a journey into the depths of His love.
Heaven below is sweeter still, for God's presence permeates every aspect of our lives.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, seeking to know Your ways. Teach us Your paths, that we may walk closely with You.
Help us understand that Your presence is the ultimate answer to our deepest questions.
As we journey through life, may Your presence be our comfort, Your guidance our confidence, and Your love our strength.
May our hearts resonate with Moses' longing for intimacy, and may we, like Jacob, find ourselves transformed by Your presence.
We surrender our pursuit of knowledge, seeking instead to know You deeply.
Amen.
