"Moses' Misplaced Fear: When Self-Doubt Hinders God's Plan"

Verses:Exodus 6:12-30

"But Moses said to the Lord, 'If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with a stammering tongue?'... So the Lord said to Moses, 'See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.'"

In this passage, we witness the unfolding of God's plan to redeem the Israelites from Egyptian bondage. While God is actively pursuing His people's liberation, Moses is preoccupied with his own limitations. He expresses his inability to speak eloquently, fearing that the Israelites and Pharaoh will not listen to him.

However, God does not dwell on Moses' concerns. Instead, He reaffirms His sovereignty and Moses' role as a vessel for His divine purposes. God reminds Moses that He is the One who acts, and Moses is merely an instrument of obedience.

Moses' sensitivity about his speech reveals a deeper issue – his struggle to comprehend the true nature of his ministry. He must come to understand that God is the primary actor, and he is simply a faithful messenger. When we focus on our limitations, we risk putting ourselves in God's place, which is a lethal sin.

As we reflect on this passage, may we be reminded that our adequacy comes not from our abilities but from our obedience to God's call. May we surrender our insecurities and trust in His sufficiency.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help us to recognize Your sovereignty and our role as humble vessels for Your purposes. Forgive us when we focus on our limitations and forget Your power. Grant us the grace to obey Your call, trusting in Your sufficiency.

May we be like Moses, willing to be used by You despite our weaknesses. May our hearts be filled with humility and our spirits with courage, knowing that You are the One who acts.

Amen.
