The Harvest of Blood: Reaping What You Sow

Verses: 2 Kings 11:16,20

"So they seized her, and she went through the horses’ entrance to the king’s house, and there she was put to death."

"All the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet after Athaliah had been put to death with the sword at the king’s house."

Athaliah’s story is a grim reminder of an unshakable truth—what a person sows, they will reap. She was a woman of ruthless ambition, drenched in the blood of the innocent, believing her wickedness would secure her power. Yet, in the end, the violence she sowed returned to her in full measure. She entered the palace through the gate meant for horses, a humiliating end for one who once sat on the throne, and there, she met the same fate she had dealt to others.

This is not just history; it is a divine principle woven into the fabric of life. The illusion that wickedness brings success is a deception many embrace. The temporary gains of cruelty, the fleeting thrill of domination, blind the heart to reality. The wicked convince themselves they are the exception—that they will escape the consequences others face. But this is a fatal delusion. To persist in evil is to push God away, to trade His justice for a hollow, self-made strength that will ultimately turn to poison.

There is no lasting victory in bloodshed, no true power in oppression. The vigor that sin offers is counterfeit, a false fuel that burns out, leaving only destruction. Athaliah’s end was not an accident; it was the inevitable harvest of what she had planted. And so it is for all who choose the same path. The only way to a peaceful end is to sow peace—to turn from violence, from deceit, from the pride that hardens the heart.

Prayer:

Lord, open our eyes to see the truth—that every act of wickedness carries its own judgment. Strip away the lies that make sin seem profitable. Break the pride that blinds us to consequences. Teach us to sow goodness, mercy, and peace, so that we may reap life instead of death. Amen.
