The Sacred Honor of God’s Anointed
Verses: 2 Kings 13:20-21
"Elisha died and was buried. Now Moabite raiders used to enter the country every spring. Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet."
There is something sacred about the way God honors His chosen ones—not just in life, but even in death. Elisha had passed away, his body laid to rest, his voice no longer heard on earth. By human reasoning, his story was over. But God does not operate by human logic. When a dead man was hastily thrown into Elisha’s tomb, the moment his body touched the prophet’s bones, life surged through him again. This was no mere coincidence; it was a divine declaration.
The miracle was not in Elisha’s bones—they held no power of their own. It was God who acted, showing that He honors those He has anointed, even in their weakest state. Think about it: a corpse, powerless and forgotten, became the instrument of resurrection. God did not ask Elisha’s permission to perform this miracle. He simply did it, because His anointed ones carry a sacred mark—one that death itself cannot erase.
If God could bring life through the bones of a dead prophet, what does that say about His regard for you—His living servant? The world may dismiss you as insignificant, past your prime, or even spiritually "dead." But God does not see you that way. He can use what others consider worthless, dry, or lifeless to bring forth miracles. The same power that flowed through Elisha in life was still present in his remains because God does not abandon His chosen ones.
This passage is a profound reminder of your worth in God’s eyes. If He showed such honor to Elisha’s bones, how much more does He value you while you still breathe? You are not an accident. You are not forgotten. You are His anointed—set apart for His purposes. The enemy may whisper that you are too broken, too weak, or too far gone to be used, but God specializes in bringing life out of death.
Do you see yourself the way God sees you? Your perception of your own worth directly impacts how boldly you serve Him. If you believe you are insignificant, you will live small. But if you grasp the truth—that God esteems you as His chosen vessel—you will walk in confidence, knowing that even in your weakest moments, He can bring forth resurrection power.
Perhaps you feel like dry bones today—empty, lifeless, or discarded. But just as Ezekiel’s valley of dry bones was revived by the breath of God, and just as a dead man sprang to life at the touch of Elisha’s remains, God can and will use you. You are not defined by your frailty but by His faithfulness.
Prayer:
Father, open my eyes to see myself as You see me—precious, anointed, and full of purpose. Even when I feel weak or forgotten, remind me that You can bring life through me in ways I cannot imagine. Help me to walk in the confidence of Your calling, knowing that You honor those who are Yours. Use me, Lord, not because of my strength, but because of Your power at work within me. Amen.
