God's Specific Desire for Each of Us
Verses: 1 Kings 8:18-19
"But the Lord said to David my father, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. Nevertheless, you shall not build the house, but your son, who shall be born to you, shall build the house for my name.'"
David's desire to build a temple for God was good and sublime. However, it was not God's plan for David to build the temple, but rather for his son Solomon to do so. This illustrates a profound truth about God's relationship with us. He has specific desires and plans for each of His children, and these plans may not always align with our own desires and ambitions.
In our zeal to serve God and fulfill our own aspirations, we may sometimes overlook the fact that God's plans for us are unique and tailored to our individual strengths, weaknesses, and circumstances. We may desire to achieve great things for God, but if our desires are not in line with His specific plans for us, they can be considered "godless" in the sense that they are not in harmony with God's will.
This realization can be both liberating and humbling. On the one hand, it frees us from the pressure to achieve our own ambitions and expectations, which can be a source of stress and anxiety. On the other hand, it requires us to surrender our own desires and plans to God, trusting that His ways are higher and better than ours.
As we learn to trust God's specific desires and plans for us, we can experience a deeper sense of freedom and peace. We are no longer driven by our own ambitions and expectations, but rather by a desire to fulfill God's plans for us. This mentality allows us to rest in God's sovereignty, knowing that He is working out His plans in our lives, even when we do not understand the details.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to trust Your specific desires and plans for us. Give us the humility to surrender our own ambitions and expectations to You, and the faith to believe that Your ways are higher and better than ours. May we experience the freedom and peace that comes from resting in Your sovereignty. Amen.
