Giving God the Glory
Verses:
2 Samuel 6:20-22, "When they had brought the ark of God to the city of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart. David returned home to bless his household. Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, 'How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants!' David said to Michal, 'It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.'"
As we reflect on this passage, we see a powerful example of humility and surrender to God's glory. King David, in his excitement and gratitude, danced and praised God before the Ark, without worrying about what others thought of him. However, Michal, his wife, despised him for his behavior, thinking it was undignified for a king.
David's response to Michal is a beautiful expression of his heart. He acknowledges that it was before the Lord that he danced and celebrated, and that he would continue to do so, even if it meant being humiliated in his own eyes. David recognized that God had chosen him and exalted him, and that he was merely a vessel for God's glory.
This passage teaches us a valuable lesson about humility and giving God the glory. When we are exalted or blessed by God, it's easy to start feeling proud or self-important. We may still praise, cry, and give testimony that it is God who did it, yet keeping a sense of pride within us. We may at times feel thankful but again or simultaneously feel it is us who have done it. However, we must recognize that our successes are not solely our own doing, but are a result of God's favor and anointing.
It's not about us, but about Him. We are merely instruments in His hands, and our successes are a result of His grace and favor. As we walk with God, let's remember to give Him the glory. Let's acknowledge our own inability and limitations, and recognize that our successes are a result of His favor and anointing.
Let's be like King David, who danced and celebrated before the Lord, without worrying about what others thought of him. Let's strive to be humble and surrendered to God's glory, recognizing that He is the one who has exalted us.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to remember that it's not about us, but about You. Give us the humility to recognize our own inability and limitations, and to give You the credit for our successes. May we be like King David, who danced and celebrated before You, without worrying about what others thought of him. May we give You the glory, and may our lives be a reflection of Your love and favor. Amen.
